Important meeting for all gardeners

Food sharing Sept 7, 2014 edited*LATEST* Have a look at the abundance of food we collected for Marpole gardeners on Sunday, Sept 7th. The vegetables and fruits were shared by Joy and Roberta from Kerrisdale Community Gardens, and also by Ursula, Cecylia and Christine from Arbutus Victory Gardens.

Food sharing editedMany Thanks to all of you who shared produce from your gardens at the ALL gardeners meeting on August 28th. At least 5 Marpole gardeners who lost all of their gardens on August 14th were present. They took home loads of vegetables and fruits, filled with tons of love. Thank you!

*If you would like to contribute to the food sharing project, or volunteer your time for pick up and delivery, please email at any time.

CP bulldozers have razed gardens in Marpole and are currently working their way down the track. Workmen expect to reach Arbutus Victory Gardens, Kerrisdale Gardens, and World in a Garden in a matter of days.

Our most effective way to stop or slow the destruction of gardens at this moment is for all gardeners along the corridor to meet, strategize and act to save our garden space.

All gardeners along the corridor are invited to this strategy session. We hope to have representation from Maple, Pine, Cypress, Kerrisdale, Marpole, Arbutus Victory and World in a Garden community gardens.

WHAT:      Information & strategy session for all community gardeners along the Arbutus Corridor.
WHEN:     Thursday, August 28, 6:30-8:00 pm
WHERE:   Kitsilano Community Centre, 2690 Larch St. at 12th Ave., in Snowy’s Lounge

In the meeting, we will introduce the latest news and then strategize in specific areas in small groups. We need your help! Please attend if possible, but we are also looking for volunteers for the following:

  • front door greeters and information desk
  • have an interest in any of the following topics and are willing to help lead a small group session: herbicide use, legal injunctions, political action, plant inventories (we can provide you with a guide before the meeting to help with the discussion)
  • media facilitation – greet any media that come and provide information
If you are able to assist in any of these areas, please email

Also, please help spread the word! Some gardeners are not so media savvy – please check with garden neighbours to ensure everyone knows about the meeting

We look forward to seeing everyone there! Apologies for such short notice for the meeting, but we are working against CP’s schedule for the destruction of gardens by early fall.
